$1.6 million, the highest amount that can be awarded under New York State law, is not considered a significant figure for Trump’s companies.
But the decision is significant because it is the first time former President Trump’s companies have been convicted.
Last month, Trump’s companies were convicted of 17 crimes, including tax evasion and falsifying business records.
