It is known that in the period from 1940 to 1945 more than a million people were imprisoned in the camps and died under terrible torture.
To date, many documents and photographs have been discovered that reveal the atrocities at Auschwitz.
However, the photographs donated to the Auschwitz Memorial Museum by the Polish collector Marek Tomaszewski allow us to look at the tragic human stories in the death camp from a different perspective.
The photographs show armed Nazi soldiers smiling at the cameras, the streets of Tarnow and, of course, the first people brought to Auschwitz.

Information about the photographs, released for the first time, states that the first passengers of Auschwitz were a caravan of 728 people.
It is alleged that 292 people in the caravan, who went down in history as the first people to set foot in this terrible concentration camp, died from terrible torture, and 325 people managed to survive. The 111 people in the convoy are said to have never been heard from.
